Scottish & Irish Folkmusic
Welcome to boysofbluehill.com
Boys Of Bluehill are known by fans of folk-music all over the country, to deliver energetic concerts in local music clubs as well as the festivals in Skagen and Tønder.
The repertoire has a wide and varied range and is mainly drawn from the rich Celtic folk-music tradition.
The music ranges from heart-felt traditional slow ballads from the Scottish Highlands, to energetic instrumental jigs and reels with the Highland bagpipe and accordion leading the charge. These are also mixed agreeably with more well-known contemporary songs from all genres, performed with original flare.
With the addition of bass, guitar mandola, mandolin, bodhrans, different whistles and the Irish Uilliean-pipe, the special Boys Of Bluehill sound is achieved.
The two Scots and two Danes in the band all sing and harmonise to produce some fine polished harmonies with an obvious and genuine feeling of love, balance and expression to their craft.
Boys Of Bluehill audiences are always greeted with an easy atmosphere with plenty of light hearted banter.

* Vocal
* Guitar

* Mandolin
Karsten got his first guitar in 1962 and seven years later in 1969, he played his first gig at the local school. Ever since he's played rock, folk, country, bluegrass and jazz as the exceptional guitarplayer he is.
From 1976 until 1987 he also appeared as a stand-in musician for a number of Danish bands and soloists. He started to play the bass in 1975.
Karsten founded Boys of Bluehill with Peter Yde in 1996 as a natural result of a very big interest for Scottish and Irish music, and even today that's where his heart is.
* Bodhran
Norrie comes from the town of Greenock, near Glasgow, in the west of Scotland, and has been playing traditional scottish and irish folk music for longer than he would like to remember, or admit to. His first venture on the scene was in 1972, and he has been trying to get it right ever since. If you ask in pubs and clubs all over Scotland, lots of folk will tell you he has.
His main instrument is his guitar and his voice, but he also plays the mandolin, bodhran, and humour. Norrie very seldom sings a song without first telling a story about it or how he found it and came to be playing it.
Norrie joined Boys of Bluehill in 2004 and thus completing the quartet.

William McLaughlin is well-known in his native Scotland. In the 90's he played with the contemporary Celtic rock band Callanish for six years, sometimes to audiences of 20,000. The band fragmented after six years and called itself The Dockers. They were well known and respected throughout Scotland, particulary in Edinburgh, down in the docks area where the band had its practice studio.
William met fellow musician John Davidson and they went on to form Scirish with the aim of touring Scandinavia. William made his first solo cd at this time, and carried on to tour Denmark twice as a solo performer. Scirish toured a few times until John's band at home were signed in America.
William joined Boys of Bluehill in 2004. He plays with the passion and the fire that comes from the Celtic love of freedom.

After playing the bass and the electric guitar in various Rythm'N'Blues and Rock'N'Roll line-ups, Peter discovered even though quite late in life - that his old love for bands like Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span, had matured into a need to actually play that type of music. He bought his accordeon, and it was love at first sight. Together with his interest in Irish and Scottish history and culture, things developed quickly, and soon Jigs, Reels, and Polkas sounded their way out from the never resting accordeon.
Along with playing in local bands, interpreting Irish music into Danish variants, Peter founded the first edition of Boys of Bluehill, together with Karsten. The lineup changed quickly and the joining of Scotsman Fraser Neil, brought authenticity and drive to both Peter's playing and the band as a whole
With todays close lineup, consisting of Peter, Karsten, William and Norrie - a long journey has reached it's peak and the future is looking bright for Boys of Bluehill.
